Because the New Year holiday fell on the first Tuesday of the month, the Greater Pine Island Civic Association has moved its January meeting to today, Thursday, Jan. 3, 2019. The meeting time remains the same — 7 p.m. — but instead of holding the meeting in the large Elk’s Club room, we will be meeting in the Tiki Bar. On the agenda this month:
- Nominations will be made for GPICA board candidates by the nominating committee; nominations may also be made from the floor. Elections will be held in February.
- A representative from the Commercial Waterman’s Conservation Group, formed after the summer’s blue-green and red tide algae blooms devastated the region, will address the membership. The group will be talking about the local fishery and their actions following the blooms.
- There will also be a short presentation about a zoning request.
