GPICA March Meeting to Feature Coastal and Heartland National Estuary Program and More

The next meeting of the Greater Pine Island Civic Association will take place at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday, March 2, 2021, on Zoom. Please save the date and the meeting link (below). Members and nonmembers are welcome to participate.

The featured speaker will be Jennifer Hecker, Executive Director of the Coastal and Heartland National Estuary Program — formerly known as the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program. The CHNEP is a partnership of citizens, elected officials, and resource managers working together to protect and restore water and wildlife habitat. It encompasses Pine Island Sound and Charlotte Harbor, along with Dona, Roberts, Lemon and Estero bays. Hecker will discuss local water quality issues and ongoing CHNEP programs, including how residents can get involved to help.

  • Next steps on the Community Issues Survey
  • Update on the WINK Doppler radar tower — WINK has withdrawn their application. Thanks to Jeffrey Waller for leading this effort and to other members of the community who stepped up to help.
  • Cape Coral plans for the Matlacha land where D&D Bait and Tackle is located and the adjoining boater access point.
