January 2022 Meeting Agenda

Join Us In Person Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022  for the Next GPICA Meeting

The Greater Pine Island Civic Association (GPICA) will hold its next monthly general meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 4, 2022, in person at the Pine Island Methodist Church, 5701 Pine Island Rd. NW, Bokeelia, FL  33922. We will also be streaming the meeting live via our Facebook Page. Members and non-members are welcome to attend.

The meeting will be a public information session focused on the Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast’s plans for land across from Flamingo Bay in St. James City.

The Foundation is submitting a rezoning and special exception application to Lee County to rezone 229 acres from C-1A and AG-2 to the Environmentally Critical (EC) zoning district in order to allow a boardwalk, kayak launch, and small parking lot. A special exception is required to permit impervious surfaces for passive recreation in the EC zoning district. The property doesn’t have an address yet, but the STRAP No. is 10-45-22-00-00001.0050. (The property location is shown in the image below.) The project is called Pine Island Preserve at Matlacha Pass.

Presenters at the meeting will be Christine Johnson, President of the Conservation Foundation of the Gulf Coast, Land Stewardship Manager Lee Amos, and Pam Brownell, Chief of Staff along with their engineering/mitigation consultants Tom Odom, PE, President Mitigation Resources, and Veronica Martin, Senior Planner, TDM Consulting.

The three zoning change requests the Foundation is seeking are:

  1. Rezoning from AG-2 and C-1A to EC (Environmentally Critical)
  2. Special Exception pursuant to LDC Sec. 983(3) to permit accessory structures and impervious surface areas for passive recreation in the EC zoning district
  3. Amend the Future Land Use Map from Coastal Rural and Uplands to Conservation Lands, Uplands and Wetlands
