Learn More About the Incorporation Process from the Florida League of Cities During October Meeting of the GPICA

Incorporation Expert from the FLC Will be the Evening’s Main Speaker

Municipal incorporation will be the main focus of the October meeting of the Greater Pine Island Civic Association (GPICA) as the organization welcomes Lynn Tipton of the Florida League of Cities (FLC). The League is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization created in 1922 to serve the needs of Florida’s cities and promote local self-government. It provides information, support and resources to municipalities across the state.

Tipton has been with the League for more than 30 years, joining the FLC as a legislative advocate in the Tallahassee office, working in the League’s membership programs and, today, serving as Director of FLC University, the organization’s main training arm. Since 2016, she’s been based in the League’s Orlando office and is responsible for the design and delivery of educational programs statewide, including providing information on municipal incorporation.

During the meeting, Tipton will answer questions about incorporation and explain how other cities across the state have become municipalities. Residents will also learn about the information and resources available to communities that are considering incorporation. It’s important to note that the League cannot and does not serve as a consultant or advocate for incorporation.

The meeting will take place at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at the Greater Pine Island Elks Club, just west of the four-way stop at the Center. Additionally, the meeting will be live-streamed on the GPICA Facebook page: www.facebook.com/PineIslandCivicAssociation.

GPICA is a membership organization focused on preserving and protecting Pine Island and all of its enclaves. Annual dues are $15 per person/$25 per couple per year. While nonmembers are welcome to attend GPICA meetings, you must be a member in good standing to vote and to be a part of the organization’s decision-making process. To join the GPICA, please click here or join in person at the next meeting. Nonmembers can also sign up to receive news and updates from the GPICA here.
