September Civic Association Meeting to Feature Lee County Clerk

Learn About Fraud Protections and More on Tuesday, Sept.1.

The September meeting of the Greater Pine Island Civic Association (GPICA) will feature Kevin Karnes, Lee County Clerk and Comptroller.

Karnes will provide an overview of the Clerk’s office and its role as an independent watchdog of county funds, and share how residents can help protect themselves from property fraud through the Mortgage Fraud Alert System. The meeting will include opportunities for the public to ask questions.

Karnes was appointed to his position by the governor in March 2022 and has continued to serve since his election in August 2022. He holds a master’s degree in Legal Studies from American Public University and a bachelor’s degree from Florida Gulf Coast University.  Kevin is a long-time veteran of the Clerk’s office, including roles in various leadership positions, before holding the elected post.

Karnes’ focus at the Clerk’s office includes prioritizing initiatives related to property fraud prevention, cybersecurity preparedness, increasing online services, and demanding government transparency and accountability.
