The Greater Pine Island Civic Association met on March 2, 2021. The meeting’s featured speaker was Jennifer Hecker, Executive Director of the Coastal and Heartland National Estuary Program — formerly known as the Charlotte Harbor National Estuary Program. The CHNEP is a partnership of citizens, elected officials, and resource managers working together to protect and restore water and wildlife habitat. It encompasses Pine Island Sound and Charlotte Harbor, along with Dona, Roberts, Lemon and Estero bays. Hecker will discuss local water quality issues and ongoing CHNEP programs, including how residents can get involved to help.
